In the netbased course Wind Power Energy you will learn how to find information about wind resources, to interpret and evaluate wind resource maps and wind statistics to find the most suitable site for energy production of wind turbines. The course will deal with how the terrain’s roughness and heights influence the wind and how the wind meteorology has an impact on the energy uptake by wind turbines. The course teaches you to perform energy production calculations for different wind turbines with the Wind Atlas Program, WindPRO and WAsP. Student licences of the PC-software WindPRO and WAsP are obligatory and will be available to purchase at course start as time-limited licences. The cost for these two software is around EUR 180. Check if the computer to be used in the course fulfil the system requirements according to EMD for WindPRO. Read about EMD’s recommendations here: http://www.emd.dk/WindPRO/System%20Requirements/

The course literature you need is the “Developing Wind Power Projects” by Wizelius, T., 2007 (or the Swedish version) that you have already obtained for the Wind Power Basics course.

Gotland University has since 1998 arranged courses on wind power within the subject Energy Technology with focus on project development and planning. The courses are given on a part-time distance learning basis. The main part of the English courses is also offered in Swedish.

Read more about the subject Wind Power and our courses at www.hgo.se/windpower. Course meetings are offered, one occasion each term. These are usually very interesting. Transport during the gathering to the study visits will be done by the teachers. The accommodation, food and journey to and from the course gathering are paid by the student. The language used will be Swedish.
