• Professor, Sustainable Development with focus on Natural Resources
•PhD, Stockholm University, Sweden

Patrik has a research background from the Beijer Institute of Ecological Economics and Stockholm University. He wrote his PhD thesis analysing the sustainability of seafood production from tropical coastal environments. The majority of Patrik’s research and work has been studied in the context of the social and economic vulnerability of stakeholders dependent on the life-support functions of viable natural environments. He has worked in depth on a variety of sustainability issues in developing countries, including work on the post- tsunami response, aquaculture development, sanitation and water quality, etc.

Professor Rönnbäck has extensive teaching experience on aspects of natural resource management, sustainable development and ecological economics. The application of strong sustainability is his leading principle of procedure, i.e., the three capitals (economic, social and natural) are complementary. Many ecosystem services constitute critical natural capital that cannot be traded off, highlighting the ecological imperative of finite limits to human activities and economic development.
